Social Stories may help people with autism or intellectual disabilities in that they support the development of “theory of mind”. Daily social life and behaviors are best accomplished by dedicated cognitive systems, which are referred to as “theory of mind”. A Social Story might be used to explain social situations in terms of what another person might be thinking or why they may behave in certain ways, therefore reducing or eliminating confusion or unpredictability whereby they create a sense of safety and security. This training will assist the participant in describing sentences used to create Social Stories, understand how pictures are used to interpret information correctly, and understand the steps to implement Social Stories.
